Persons Subject to this Registration:
If you have acquired U.S. citizenship by naturalization, you have lost Japanese nationality from that day forth. Please submit the Denaturalization Registration as soon as possible.
Required Documents:

2. | One Proof of Naturalization (choose one of the following) - An “Authenticated Copy of a Certificate of Naturalization” issued by USCIS. Click here ![]() - Notarized Affidavit ![]() ![]() - The original “Certificate of Naturalization” (only for submissions at the window) |
3. | One Translation of Above [#2] - Translation Form of Affidavit ![]() - Translation Form of "Certificate of Naturalization" ![]() - Anyone can fill this out in Japanese. |

5. | One Contact Information Sheet - Include your address, e-mail, and phone number. Please be sure that this phone number has voicemail and that the voicemail box is not full. |
Important Information:
- You must write your Registered Domicile (Honseki-chi) exactly as it shows on your Family Registry (Koseki Tohon or Koseki Shohon). Please submit a copy of Family Registry if available.
- If you have any other life events before this date (Marriage, Divorce, etc.) the relevant registrations must be submitted before or together with your Denaturalization.
- Please send all required documents by mail. The U.S. postal system may have mail delivery issues and there have been cases where they lost mail. We recommend you use Certified Mail or a Tracking Number to monitor your mail. You may contact us a few days after delivery to confirm that we received your documents. We will only contact you if there are any issues with your submission.
- To apply for a visa to enter Japan, you will need to obtain a Joseki Tohon that reflects your Denaturalization. It may take 2 months to process your Denaturalization, so please submit the registration as soon as possible.
