KAKEHASHI – LA Latin American Young Leaders Delegation Event

On December 9, 2025, the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles, supported by JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles, hosted an event featuring a presentation by the LA Latin American Young Leaders Delegation. The delegation traveled to Japan from October 21-28 on the KAKEHASHI Project, sponsored by the Government of Japan.
 
The delegation members were nominated by the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and included Alejandra Acosta (Founder and CEO, One Degree Hotter College Advising), Diego Andrades (Assistant Director, USC Dornsife Center for the Political Future), and Matthew Sanchez (Founder/CEO/Perfumer, MATTEO PARFUMS).
 
The evening began with special remarks by President of JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles Yuko Kaifu, President & CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Maria Salinas, and Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles Kosei Murota. During the featured presentation, the delegation members shared key highlights and reflections on their time in Japan and plans for engaging further with Japan-U.S. relations in the future.
 
Special guests at the event included Mayor Jeffrey Maloney from the City of Alhambra (2024 Japanese American Leadership Delegation member and LA Next Generation Japanese American Leaders Initiative member), Mayor Ulises Cabrera from the City of Moreno Valley, Councilmember Ed Chen from Temple City, and representatives of federal, state, and local elected officials. Additional guests including representatives of the Latin American and Japanese communities and alumni of the African American, Armenian American, and Japanese American KAKEHASHI delegations had a chance to meet each other and make new connections.
 
The reception that followed the program included Japanese food by UKA Restaurant.
 
KAKEHASHI PROJECT
Initiated by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and administered through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the project aims to promote people-to-people exchanges between Japan and North America and to promote mutual trust and understanding to build a basis for future friendship and cooperation and to encourage further understanding of Japan.
