4th Japan Contents Pitch Event Held

2022/10/7
On September 28th, the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles, along with JETRO Los Angeles and the United Talent Agency (UTA), co-hosted the 4th Japan Contents Pitch event.

The welcome speech by Consul General Sone highlighted the successful story of filming Michael Mann’s “Tokyo Vice” in Tokyo, despite numerous restrictions and regulations to film in the city. He continued, “As Japan eases travel restriction from October 11, more international collaborations in the entertainment industry are expected to take place.”

Mr. Masi Oka, who is also an adviser to this event, was joined by Kansai TV, TBS TV, TV Asahi and Yomiuri TV, to pitch four Japanese TV dramas for adaptation for the U.S. Market. The event was attended by approximately 15 buyers and producers of drama productions for streaming and cable broadcasters in Hollywood.

As the U.S. contents industry seeks captivating and compelling ideas, there is an increasing demand for unconventional and unique concepts from overseas to be recrafted for the U.S. market. The first Japan Contents Pitch was held in June 2019, followed by online events in June 2021 and March 2022. This time, our 4th event, was held in person for the first time since the pandemic started. More Japanese entertainment contents are expected be exported overseas through this event.
