Select LA Investment Summit 2024

On June 20, Consul General Sone participated in the Select LA Investment Summit 2024 organized by the World Trade Center Los Angeles (WTCLA), and joined the opening remarks along with Stephen Cheung, CEO of the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), and George Chen, the Mayor of Torrance. In the opening remarks, Consul General Sone noted the particularly strong economic ties between Japan and Southern California and looked forward to further collaboration for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games and other opportunities.
At the summit, the annually updated report on Foreign Direct Investment in California was released, showing Japan still in the top slot as the largest investor nation in Southern California and Los Angeles County (9 consecutive years since the release of the first report). According to the report, Japanese FDI has returned approximately $12.2 billion in wages and created 112,673 jobs throughout the state of California. In Southern California, the report states that Japan has contributed over $7.5 billion in wages and 78,511 jobs to the California economy. The Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles, in close cooperation with the WTCLA, is also disseminating information on Japan's economic contribution to California.
