School Visit: Koto & Shamisen at Dunsmore Elementary School
On September 30, the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles visited Dunsmore Elementary School in Glendale.
Students from both the regular and Japanese immersion programs learned about traditional Japanese music through an introduction to the koto and shamisen by Ms. Kujiraoka and fellow teachers, followed by live performances of both instruments, experiencing the sounds of traditional Japanese music up close. We ended the visit on a special note by singing “Sakura, Sakura” all together.
It was a wonderful opportunity to share Japanese music and culture with the students, and to see Japanese music bringing everyone together!

School Visit: Improv at Verdugo Woodlands Elementary School
On October 13, the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles visited Verdugo Woodlands Elementary School in Glendale, CA.
Students in the Japanese immersion program participated in a special workshop led by actor Takaaki Hirakawa. Through movement-based activities and Japanese language games, students had the opportunity to actively use the Japanese they learn in the classroom in a fun and engaging way. The workshop concluded with an improvisation activity, where students used their creativity and Japanese language skills to perform spontaneous scenes together.
It was a wonderful opportunity for students to put their Japanese into practice while building confidence and expressing themselves through creativity and play. We were delighted to see their enthusiasm and participation throughout the event!
