San Bernardino County’s “Exploring the Future of Drones & AI Technology Together” Roundtable with Japanese Companies

On August 28, 2025, the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles co-hosted a roundtable discussion on “Exploring the Future of Drones & AI Technology Together” with JETRO and San Bernardino County, bringing together Japanese businesses and county officials and organizations. They discussed opportunities for collaboration between Japan, the State of California, and San Bernardino County on AI and drone technology.
The roundtable featured introductions of various initiatives in AI and drone technology. Presentations from San Bernardino County (the UAS Center at San Bernardino International Airport and the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District) highlighted how they support innovation of drone technology and their utilization of drones in a variety of situations.
Presentations by Japanese companies (Yamaha Motor Corporation, ACSL, Sumitomo Corporation of Americas, and SB Telecom America) then followed with each company sharing about their own development of drone and AI technology as well as potential collaboration opportunities with the county.
Following the roundtable discussion, participants visited the California State University San Bernardino Center for Cyber and AI to learn more about the university’s cybersecurity program and possible areas for collaboration.
