LA-Nagoya Cherry Blossom Festival Held

2025/4/7
On March 29th, the LA-Nagoya Cherry Blossom Festival took place at Gloria Molina Grand Park in Downtown Los Angeles to celebrate the 66-year sister city relationship between Los Angeles and Nagoya. Consul General Kenko Sone delivered opening remarks, and officials representing the County of Los Angeles, the City of Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles-Nagoya Sister City Affiliation (LANSCA) also spoke.

The festival featured cultural performances by LA Taiko Ichiza and Bando Hidesomi, as well as the introduction of the Nisei Week Queen & Court. After the ceremony, a reception was held with a catered Nagoya food provided by Far Bar in Little Tokyo, offering a chance for networking among attendees.

The Community Terrace in Gloria Molina Grand Park is home to 14 cherry trees that bloom beautiful blossoms every spring. Donated as part of the 2012 Japan-U.S. Cherry Blossom Centennial, the trees were planted at Gloria Molina Grand Park to mark the city of Tokyo’s gift of over 3,000 cherry trees to Washington, D.C. in 1912 as a symbol of lasting friendship between Japan and the U.S. This gesture symbolized lasting friendship between Japan and the U.S., a sentiment echoed through the enduring sister-city relationship between Los Angeles and Nagoya, one of the longest in Southern California.
