KAKEHASHI – LA Next Generation Japanese American Leaders Delegation
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan sponsored four members of the LA Next Generation Japanese American Leaders Initiative on a visit to Japan from Dec 3 - 10 through the KAKEHASHI Project. The delegation visited Tokyo and Fukuoka and deepened their knowledge of Japan’s history, culture, and contemporary society and helped Japanese leaders better understand the Japanese American experience.
During their visit, they met with national elected officials including Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Arfiya Eri and Representatives Taro Kono and Karen Makishima of the National Diet of Japan. They also met with Councilmember Risa Kamio of Setagaya City along with other Tokyo area councilmembers, and held meetings with other government representatives, as well as leaders of non-profits, academia, and business.
The delegation members included Kaitlyn Chu, Kevin Keizuchi, Justin Kawaguchi, and Candice Shikai.
KAKEHASHI PROJECT
Initiated by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and administered through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the project aims to promote people-to-people exchanges between Japan and North America and to promote mutual trust and understanding to build a basis for future friendship and cooperation and to encourage further understanding of Japan.
