WTCLA x JETRO MOU & 2024 Beyond Japan Pitch Event

2024/10/21
On October 9, Consul General Sone was a witness for an MOU signing ceremony between the World Trade Center Los Angeles (WTCLA) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Los Angeles, which was hosted at his official residence. The MOU set an important milestone for closer collaboration between Japanese companies, especially start-ups, and companies in the Los Angeles area. Erin Bromaghim, Deputy Mayor of International Affairs for the City of Los Angeles, also celebrated the event as a witness.

After the MOU signing ceremony, Consul General Sone used the opportunity to host a pitch event for Japanese startups who were in Los Angeles as a part of JETRO’s “Beyond Japan” program to connect with US investors and stakeholders.

Beyond Japan is a program driven by the Japanese government's “Startup Development Five-Year Plan.” The program supports the development of Japanese start-ups through overseas dispatch to start-up hubs and provides individual mentoring as well as opportunities to join networking events and seminars. This pitch event at the official residence was a key moment for entrepreneurs to match with local investors.

Six Japanese startups selected through Beyond Japan’s highly competitive program gave a pitch about their innovative products from diverse fields, including semiconductor manufacturing, sales-tech, and food traceability. More than 70 investors and local organizations gathered at the event to connect with the startups.
