LA City and Japan Business Roundtable

On September 16, the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles, in collaboration with the City of Los Angeles, hosted a business roundtable featuring the City of Los Angeles and Japanese companies.
This roundtable served as a forum for dialogue on business in Los Angeles, bringing together City officials, including Mayor Karen Bass, and representatives from Japanese companies in a wide range of sectors, including biotechnology, aerospace and defense, entertainment, mobility, sustainability, and food.
In the opening remarks, Consul General Kosei Murota expressed his hope that Mayor Karen Bass and the City of Los Angeles will continue to provide strong support to Japanese companies so that they continue to see the clear advantages to doing business and expanding their operations in the region.
The Japanese companies and organizations provided an overview about their activities and shared about some challenges they face, and city officials shared its business support initiatives. Through the roundtable, participants deepened mutual understanding and explored opportunities for new collaboration.
According to the 2026 World Trade Center Los Angeles Foreign Direct Investment Report, Japan is the #1 foreign direct investor in California as well as in LA County. In LA County, Japanese establishments support over 50,000 jobs generating nearly $7 billion in estimated wages.
