The Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles held the Reception to Celebrate the Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor on Feb. 27 at the Official Residence of the Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles. Representatives of local governments including elected officials from within the Consulate’s service area, and guests with ties to Japan attended the reception.

Following the national anthems of Japan and the United States, Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles Kosei Murota delivered remarks. President & CEO of the local Japanese American senior support organization “Keiro” Beverly Ito gave guest remarks, followed by the presentation of commendations from California State Assemblymember Jessica Caloza, California State Assemblymember Mike Gipson, Mayor Sharona Nazarian of the City of Beverly Hills, and Mayor Frank Yokoyama of the City of Cerritos. Thomas Iino, Founding Chair of the U.S.-Japan Council, then gave the toast.

At the reception, a bonsai exhibition was held in connection with the International Horticultural Exposition to be held in Yokohama in 2027. Japanese companies from the tourism, aviation, and railway industries gathered together to promote inbound tourism to Japan as an “All-Japan” effort. Additionally, Japanese food companies and restaurants offered Japanese cuisine, and Tochigi Prefecture set up a booth to showcase its attractions. The event served as an opportunity to strengthen the friendly relations between Japan and the United States and deepen exchanges.
