California-Japan Sister Cities 2025 Online Workshop held

The annual online Sister City Workshop, co-hosted by the California-Japan Sister Cities Network (CJSCN) the Consulates General of Japan in San Francisco and Los Angeles, was held on May 21.
 
Consul General Sone delivered live remarks, emphasizing the Japanese government’s support for pop culture events in California and expressing hopes that sister cities will engage with these initiatives.
 
With the theme "From Fandom to Friendship: Pop Culture as a Gateway for Youth Engagement," Mr. Dennis-Michael Broussard (San Diego International Sister Cities Association/Experienced Cultural Promotor) shared strategies for building cross-sector partnerships to organize large-scale events.
 
Ms. Alexandria Horn (San Diego–Yokohama) spoke about how Japanese pop culture has helped her build her career as an education and program coordinator, while Ms. Nao Kondo (Sunnyvale–Iizuka), an artist and designer, shared her hands-on experiences organizing pop culture-themed events through her involvement in the sister city program..
 
Participants then discussed their ideas on how to incorporate pop culture elements into the dialogue of sister city activities.
