2025/7/31
On July 29, the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles presented the Commendation of the Consul General to Mr. Takehito Yokoo.
The Commendation of the Consul General was established to recognize an individual or group who has helped advance the mission of the Consulate General and has provided significant contributions to mutual understanding and promoting friendship between Japan and the United States.
<Biography and Achievements>
Mr. Yokoo has been engaged in research and development of hydrogen technology at Toyota Motor North America for over 30 years, with a particular focus on the development of hydrogen powertrains such as for hydrogen fueled vehicles.
Building on this experience, he became the first chairman of the Japan Hydrogen Forum (JH2F) upon its establishment in 2021. Since then, he has dedicated himself to promoting Japanese companies’ involvement in the hydrogen business and to the dissemination of hydrogen technology, as well as to advocating for decarbonization efforts in the United States.
Mr. Yokoo has actively shared information about Japan's advanced hydrogen technology with California government officials, academics, and U.S. companies and organizations at various events, including the environmental international conference VerdeXchange and at Stanford University. He has worked to establish a foundation for Japan-U.S. cooperation through hydrogen business initiatives. His activities have not been limited to California: in 2023, he delivered a presentation addressing the Department of Energy (DOE) at the U.S.-Japan Council Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.
After serving as the chairman for about three years from 2021, he continues to contribute as Advisor to JH2F, working to promote Japanese hydrogen technology in the U.S.
