Consul General's Commendation Conferred on Mr. Mitsuyasu Shigeta

On July 25, the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles presented the Commendation of the Consul General to Mr. Mitsuyasu Shigeta.

The Commendation of the Consul General was established to recognize an individual or group who has helped advance the mission of the Consulate General and has provided significant contributions to mutual understanding and promoting friendship between Japan and the United States.

<Biography and Achievements>

Since opening Shin-Sen-Gumi Restaurant Group’s first restaurant Shin-Sen-Gumi Yakitori Gardena in 1992, Mr. Shigeta has operated 15 locations, including yakitori, Hakata ramen, and Chanko Nabe restaurants in California. As the CEO of Shin-Sen-Gumi Restaurant Group, he has  dedicated himself to promoting Japanese cuisine for over 30 years. He sees his restaurants as “places for human resource development,” and has  helped educate many young employees and also served  as a gateway to business opportunities in the United States.

Mr. Shigeta has organized various charity events throughout the year such as New Year's mochi pounding, Children's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and summer festivals, to promote cultural exchange and support local community. He has also participated in events like “Anime Expo,” “Taste of Japan,” and “Sake in the Park,” selling yakitori and ramen to promote Japanese cuisine to a wide range of customers. He has also actively supported Japanese athletes, including soccer players.

In October 2024, he organized the “Hometown Film Festival” of Tokunoshima Island in Kagoshima Prefecture, which is his hometown, at JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles The festival showcased two films: “The Whale Island of Tokunoshima,” which highlights the island's charm, and “The Bullfighting Island of Tokunoshima,” based on his personal experiences.

The Commendation of the Consul General has been presented to Mr. Shigeta in recognition of not only the promotion of Japanese cuisine but also his significant contributions to the promotion of Japanese culture and tourism, as well as to the development of the Japanese communities.
