On January 28, Consul General Sone hosted a Commendation Ceremony of the Japan Agricultural Achievement Awards for Mr. Sadaharu Nishio. Details below:
Commendation Ceremony of the Japan Agricultural Achievement Awards
1. Biography and Reasons for Commendation
Mr. Nishio established his farm, Green Paradise Farm, in 1987 in Vista City, San Diego County, California. The farm grows Japanese vegetables such as cucumbers, eggplants, tomatoes, peppers, mizuna, and garland chrysanthemums year-round, and supplies Japanese supermarkets and wholesalers with Japanese vegetables throughout the year. Aiming for high quality and stable supply, the company is constantly working to improve soil and cultivation methods, and aims to deliver safe, secure, and delicious vegetables to consumers through the use of its own compost and organic fertilizers. Since its establishment, the farm has also been accepting trainees from Japan every year, and has hosted 35 trainees in the past. The company is also actively involved in contributing to the local community, and gives lectures on the work of farmers to third grade students at Minato Gakuen, a supplementary school in San Diego.
2. The Agricultural Society of Japan’s Commendation Ceremony
The commendation ceremony for Mr. Nishio was held at the Consul General's Official Residence from 2:00 pm, on January 28, 2025, with his family, friends, and related parties in attendance. Consul General Sone offered congratulations and presented Mr. Nishio with the certificate of commendation and the ribbon of the Green-White Achievement Award. Mr. Shinkichi Koyama, President of the Southern California Chapter of the Agricultural Society of Japan, and Rev. Michio Okawa, a friend of Mr. Nishio, gave congratulatory remarks and praised his achievements.
In response, Mr. Nishio thanked everyone involved and reflected on his experience as a farmer growing Japanese vegetables with the support of many people.
After a toast by Mr. Haruo Takehana, President of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California, a reception was held.
