2024/9/20
On Sept. 15, Consul General and Mrs. Sone participated in the 78th Annual East Los Angeles Mexican Independence Day Parade by invitation of the Comite Mexicano Civico Patriotoco. First held in 1946, this parade is the largest Mexican Independence Day celebration in the U.S. The morning began with a special pre-parade program with dignitaries and elected officials, where Consul General delivered remarks.
Consul General and Mrs. Sone later road a convertible in the parade, followed by a Japanese portable shrine called mikoshi commonly seen at Japanese festivals to honor deities, carried by close to 20 members of local organization Rafu Mutsumi-Kai.
Japanese food and beverage were served at the luncheon reception. A booth providing information at the festival area included items from Japan External Trade Organization, Japan Foundation, JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles, and Japan National Tourism Organization.
