2023/11/17
On Nov. 1, “Explore Nagoya and Central Japan,” an event seeking to encourage tourism and raise the profile of Nagoya and the surrounding Chubu region (Aichi, Gifu and Mie prefectures), was held at the Official Residence of the Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles. The event, co-hosted by Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles, the City of Nagoya, and Los Angeles-Nagoya Sister City Affiliation (LANSCA), welcomed about 60 attendees including U.S.-based travel and tourism representatives, city of Los Angeles officials, and a visiting delegation from the City of Nagoya.
Consul General SONE Kenko gave welcoming greetings, followed by remarks from LANSCA President Teruko Weinberg; Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) Los Angeles Executive Director Yoko Tanaka; and City of Nagoya Deputy Mayor Yoshinori Matsuo. After Naomi Ikeda from the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Office read a message from Mayor Karen Bass, JETRO Los Angeles Chief Executive Director Osamu Taki led a toast with Kamoshibito Kuheiji sake from Nagoya.
About 10 companies set up booths related to Nagoya tourism & travel, anime, cosplay, Japanese sake and sweets. The Official Residence chef prepared Nagoya specialty dishes including miso katsu (breaded pork with miso-based sauce), hitsumabushi (broiled eel over rice), and kishimen (flat udon noodles) for guests. In his presentation, Deputy Mayor Matsuo introduced Nagoya’s numerous local attractions. The event gave guests an opportunity to experience the appealing aspects of Nagoya and the Chubu region from different perspectives.
