LA Next Generation Japanese American Leaders: Women's Leadership Event
2022/5/23
On May 11, the diversity/women’s empowerment subgroup of the LA Next Generation Japanese American Leaders held a networking event with a special presentation via livestream from Japan by Ms. Megumi Ishimoto, the Director of the non-profit organization Women’s Eye.
The event titled “The Power and Beauty of Relationships” provided participants the chance to hear firsthand from Ms. Ishimoto how she founded Women’s Eye through her participation in relief efforts in the Tohoku region after the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011. She recounted the network of relationships with Japanese Americans in the U.S. that helped her develop the organization, which have continued to sustain her work to the present day.
After Ms. Ishimoto’s presentation, guests participated in discussions in smaller groups which explored the ways in which their own experiences have been shaped by the power of relationships and how these relationships contribute to the strengthening of the U.S.-Japan relationship.
