Appointment Ceremony of "Goodwill Ambassador to Promote Japanese Cuisine" for Mr. David Schlosser & Sake Seminar

On March 30th, 2021, the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles held an appointment ceremony of a “Goodwill Ambassador to Promote Japanese Cuisine” for Mr. David Schlosser, Owner & Chef of Japanese restaurant “Shibumi”.

After training in “Kikunoi” in Kyoto, Chef David opened “Shibumi” in 2016. “Shibumi” serves Kappo cuisine using a wide variety of Japanese food ingredients. Just after its opening, “Shibumi” was recognized as the second best restaurant in Los Angeles by the late Jonathan Gold, the famous food writer of the LA Times. In 2019, “Shibumi” was awarded one Michelin star. Even after earning a Michelin star, Chef David has long been exploring Japanese food culture, and he continues to introduce a wide variety of Japanese food ingredients, such as Wagyu and Sake.

His effort in promotion of Japanese cuisine was highly recognized by the Japanese Government, Chef David was appointed as “Goodwill Ambassador to Promote Japanese Cuisine” in 2021.

At the appointment ceremony, Deputy Consul General Koichi Nakagawa delivered congratulatory remarks. After the ceremony, Chef David stated his attitude towards “Goodwill Ambassador to Promote Japanese Cuisine”, and also explained chef’s special Bento Box and Sake which is provided to the event participants.

The appointment ceremony was held online. After the Chef David’s remarks, participants congratulated Chef David on his appointment, and had a lively question and answer session on sake from Tohoku region served on the day, as well as Chef David’s activities in Tohoku region and reconstruction situation after the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Chef David is expected to act as a Goodwill Ambassadors to promote Japanese food and its food culture with Consulate General of Japan and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).
