On Saturday, May 22, 2021, Consul General Muto joined a community cleanup event in Little Tokyo, sponsored by the City of Los Angeles to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. The event was organized by the City of Los Angeles and also took place in the additional neighborhoods of Chinatown, Thai Town, Historic Filipinotown, and Koreatown/Little Bangladesh.

Consul General Muto joined Los Angeles City Councilmember Kevin De Leon, Public Works Commissioner Greg Good, and Little Tokyo Rotary Club Past President George Tanaka in offering brief remarks to the close to 50 community members who were gathered.

Consul General acknowledged the recent rise in anti-Asian incidents and the opportunity for the cleanup event to provide “a chance to unite in pride for our communities, in solidary and friendship,” noting that “one of Los Angeles’ greatest assets is its vibrant AAPI community.”

He expressed optimism with the subsiding of the COVID-19 pandemic, looking forward to opportunities to deepen friendship and work together with other Asian communities and beyond in the new post-COVID world.
