The relationship between Japan and Japanese Americans plays a vital role in Japan-U.S. relations.  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan sponsors programs and meetings in collaboration with partner organizations for the strengthening of Japan’s ties with the Japanese American community. 

 
 
Japanese American Leadership Delegation Program
Since 2000, delegations of Japanese American leaders have traveled to Japan to meet with high level leaders and deepen their connections with Japan.  Participants build on their experiences on the delegation to promote U.S.-Japan relations.   
 
Meeting of Ambassador, Consuls General and Japanese American Leaders
Since 2003, the Ambassador and Consuls General of Japan to the United States have held national meetings with Japanese American leaders to discuss strategies for advancing the U.S.-Japan relationship.
 
Japanese American Student Program
Since 2010, Japanese American students have traveled to Japan on cultural immersion trips. The participants are primarily of multiracial background, reflecting an increasingly common trend among younger generation Japanese Americans.
