On August 24, 2016, Consul General Chiba attended a dedication ceremony for a plaque memorializing the Pomona Fairplex – Los Angeles County Fairgrounds as the site of the Pomona Assembly Center where Japanese Americans were detained from May 7 – August 24, 1942.
Consul General joined the close to 100 participants including former internees, former Los Angeles County CEO Bill Fujioka, U.S. Army Captain Joseph Davis, Pomona City Councilwoman Paula Lantz, and representatives of the offices of Congresswoman Norma Torres, California State Senator Connie Leyva and Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis, in paying tribute.
