TICAD V: The Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development

 On June 1st-3rd,
the Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) was held in Yokohama. Attended by a record 4,500 participants from 51 African countries and represenatives of 74 international and regional organizations, the conference strengthened Japan's partnership with Africa and resulted in a resolution to "promote transformative, resilient and inclusive growth across Africa."

U.S.-Japan Council Japan Symposium

 Top business executives, government officials and non-profit leaders convened at the U.S.-Japan Council Japan Symposium focused on investing in the next generation of leaders from Japan and the United States. Speakers included Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, U.S. Ambassador to Japan John Roos and Fast Retailing Chairman, President & CEO Tadashi Yanai. The symposium also featured a special tribute to the late Senator Daniel K. Inouye.

JUSEC Seeking Executive Director

Anime Expo in Los Angeles    

 

Anime Expo is being held July 4 - 7, 2013, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. It is currently the largest anime and manga convention in North America. It features panel presentations, concerts, a fashion show, karaoke, programming sessions, tabletop gaming, cosplay, and premier events.

On June 29, 2013 the JACCC and the Asia America Symphony Association (AASA) welcome back to their stage the great band Hiroshima. The Orchestra will play music from great American composers, and Hiroshima will play many of the favorites that they have created and played over the years.

TAIKOPROJECT Presents Rythmic Relations 2013 
TaikoprojectThis year's event TAIKOPROJECT event at the Ford Amphitheatre features the first collaboration between TAIKOPROJECT and top Middle Eastern percussionist Amir Sofi. Sofi's powerful percussion instrument known as the darbuka (goblet drum) complements TAIKOPROJECT's crowd-pleasing traditional taiko drums, koto (Japanese harp) and custom-made marimbas. Kitsune Taiko, Loma Pacific Taiko, Tanuki Taiko and Bombu Taiko round out this innovative, hip-hop infused evening.
