Overcoming Disaster -Arigato from Japan Concert 
On March 2 there will be a free concert of music from the Tohoku region featuring Ondekoza and other performers.  The event will be at the Ahmanson Theatre in the Music Center.  The concert is in response to the outpouring of kindness shown following the March 11 earthquake disaster in Japan last year.

Leadership Delegation

Ten Japanese American leaders from across the country will travel to Japan to further develop the U.S.-Japan relationship on a program sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition to meetings in Tokyo, the delegation, led by President Irene Hirano Inouye of the U.S.-Japan Council, will visit Tohoku to show support for the region devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Green Tech at VerdeXchange!

The VerdeXchange conference, convened in Los Angeles January 22-24, was joined by presenters from Japanese companies and government sectors.  With a focus on best practices and technology solutions for the environment, Japan's approach on these issues and its continued technology leadership role generated much interest among U.S. regulators and California political and business leaders. Consul General Niimi hosted a kick-off reception for VIP participants and speakers which allowed for high value-added networking and displays of Japanese green technology. Arizona Matsuri!  2010 Spring Kunsho
Arizona Matsuri returns on February 25 & 26 at Heritage Square in downtown Phoenix.  Join in the celebration and experience Japanese food and culture - this year with a sakura twist. It's one of the first cherry blossom centennial commemorative events of the year!

Sakura Manga Poster Winners!
Congratulations to the Sakura Manga Poster winners! Tzu-Yang Huang is the first place winner in the computer generated category. Tiana Wright won first place in the free-hand category.  Commemorating the Cherry Blossom Centennial, the posters will be on exhibition during the year.  Check out Japan America Society of Southern California's website for the exhibition schedule.

Ceramics by Mariko Bird
Mariko Bird uses unusual shapes and glaze techniques to evoke a surreal quality to her ceramic sculptures.  A collection of her pieces is now on display in the Library of the Japan Information & Culture Center at the Consulate General of Japan.
