On Thursday, Oct. 19th, Honorary Consul General of Japan in San Diego Kate Leonard was awarded the Phillips Community Award at the 2017 Leadership Awards Gala hosted by the Japan Society of San Diego and Tijuana at the Inamori Pavilion of the Japanese Friendship Garden in San Diego.
In his welcome remarks at the awards gala, Deputy Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles Kazutoshi Hayashi expressed gratitude to Honorary Consul General Leonard for her hard work and to the Japan Society for recognizing her accomplishments with the Phillips Community Award. Deputy Consul General Hayashi also praised the Japan Society and Japan-related community in San Diego and Tijuana for their efforts to enhance mutual understanding between the people of Japan, the U.S. and Mexico. Also in attendance at the awards gala was Honorary Consul General of Japan in Tijuana Luis Augusto Lutteroth del Riego.
The Japan Society annually honors those who have made outstanding efforts to promote goodwill and advance business, civic, educational, and cultural interchange and understanding between the people of Japan, San Diego, and Tijuana. The Phillips Community Award is named after the late Mr. Randall Phillips, a former Honorary Consul General of Japan in San Diego who served as Honorary Director of the Japan Society and worked tirelessly to promote people-to-people relations between Japan, San Diego and Tijuana. |
