The Consulate General of Japan, Los Angeles held a welcome reception for the Special Olympics Japanese Athlete Delegation at the Official Residence on July 29th. Along with approximately 120 members of the Japanese Delegation, Mayor Fredrick Sykes and other Council Members and city workers from the Japanese Delegation host city of West Covina, as well as representatives from the Special Olympics Los Angeles Committee and the local Japanese American community were in attendance.
In his remarks, Consul General Harry H. Horinouchi welcomed the Japanese Delegation to Los Angeles and voiced his support for the athletes in their Games as well as appreciation to the attendees in their efforts to welcome the Delegation.
Ms. Yoshiko Mitsui, President of the Special Olympics Nippon, explained the hard work the athletes have faced to compete in the Games and expressed her appreciation to the supporters of Team Nippon.
The toast was given by Mr. Phillip Komai, President of the East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center in which he reflected on his interactions with the athletes and praised their hard work.
The athletes were excited to be able to eat Japanese food and interact with the attendees, ending the welcome reception with a group photo of all the athletes.
