Video Art Screening at REDCAT
Three cultures which share a rich tradition in the Boyle Heights neighborhood continue to explore their common heritage. This time, they present humorous, cutting edge video art from their countries, Israel, Japan and Mexico. One night only at Disney Hall's REDCAT Theater on February 22 at 8:30 pm.

Russian Impact on Japan
Japan government decoration recipient, Dr. Peter Berton will share his recollections of researching Japan early in the Cold War. In anticipation of broad international interest, the program will be webcast. An exhibition of items relevant to the development of contact between Russia and Japan, with a focus on the areas of Professor Berton's postwar studies, will accompany the event. At USC's Doheny Library on February 16. Lecture: 3:00 pm. Exhibition: 2:00 - 6:00 pm.

Diet Member Taro Kono and Japanese Americans

Presenting Noh Drama: Theater Prints of Tsukioka Kogyo
Woodblock print artist Tsukioka Kogyo was known for his depictions of scenes from noh theater. In this exhibition, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art showcases their collection of prints from Kogyo's series "One Hundred Noh Plays." On display from February 12 - May 15.

On February 11, the Japanese Consulate hosted a shochu information event led by JETRO and 16 Japanese shochu breweries originating from the southern part of Japan. Sake and shochu sommelier Yuji Matsumoto gave a lecture and led the samplings.

Fishing for space junk?
Japan's space agency and a high-tech fishing net maker are exploring the possibility of deploying orbiting nets to capture some of those dangerous bits of space junk and drag them down to incinerate harmlessly in earth's upper atmosphere.
