Introduction
To date, some 79,000 students from approximately 160 countries and regions around the world have studied in Japan under the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship program established in 1954. As of May 1, 2009, there were 10,168 foreign students studying in Japan as Japanese government scholarship students.
The Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles accepts application for Japanese government scholarships from candidates who are U.S. citizens and reside or attend universities in Southern California and Arizona ONLY. For our Information Brochure, please click here .

If you are a U.S. citizen but do not live or study in our jurisdiction, please click here to find the Consulate General of Japan to which you can apply for a MEXT Scholarship. If you are not a U.S. citizen (including foreign student or permanent resident) please inquire about MEXT through the Embassy of Japan in the country to which you have citizenship. MEXT Scholarship Alumni
The
MEXT Scholarship Association provides a forum for MEXT Alumni, professors, and other supporters to meet, network and stay involved with Japanese-related events. Please contact the Scholarships Desk for more information.
