On December 3, 2009, the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles hosted the Emperor’s Birthday Reception celebrating Emperor Akihito’s 76th birthday at the official residence of the Consul General Junichi Ihara. Click here for the text of speech by Consul General Ihara.
The reception featured traditional Japanese culture and performances, including music by June Kuramoto and Kimo Cornwell of the group Hiroshima, traditional court music by Kinnara Gagaku, and a modeling of a real twelve-layered kimono called junihitoe.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of His Majesty’s accession to the throne. |
