Japan Agricultural Association Awards Medal to Mr. Ross Koda

The Japan Agricultural Association, or Dai Nihon Nokai, awarded their Achievement Medal for 2016 to Mr. Ross Koda at a ceremony hosted by Consul General Chiba at the Consul General’s official residence.

Details below:

1. Biography

Mr. Ross Koda was born in the United States in 1964. He graduated from Stanford University’s School of Economics.  He is the third generation operator of Koda Farms, which was founded by his grandfather, Keisaburo Koda.

2. Reasons for commendation

Following his grandfather’s founding vision, Mr. Koda delivers high-quality rice and agricultural products to consumers with rigorous control over every step of the production process, from development of seed strains, planting, harvesting, processing, packaging and shipping.  Efforts going forward include addressing the challenges of climate change, drought and declines in soil quality.  In addition, he is always generous in his cooperation and support of the Fukushima Kenjinkai and in hosting agricultural students from Japan.

3. Certificate award ceremony

Mr. Koda's commendation ceremony was held at the Consul General’s Official Residence from 2:00 pm, November 29th, with the participation of family members, friends and colleagues. Consul General Akira Chiba offered congratulations on Mr. Koda’s achievements in high quality rice production then presented a certificate and medal of commendation to Mr. Koda. A congratulatory letter was shared by Mr. Shinkichi Koyama, Chairman of the Dai Nihon Nokai Southern California Council; Mr. Mike Kamimoto, representing the Southern California Kenjinkai Council and Mr. Masanori Baba, film director, also honored Mr. Koda’s achievements.  Thereupon, Mr. Koda indicated he was not receiving this award for himself, but on behalf of the entire team at Koda Farms, and gave thanks to family and guests.  Ms. Toby Mallen, Vice Chair of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California, offered a toast and congratulated Mr. Koda, which concluded the award ceremony.  A reception followed, enjoyed by the day’s honoree and guests.
